Guide to all weather riding
With cold starts, warm afternoons and unpredictable rain showers; autumn can be a tricky time of year for getting your cycling clothing right. We’ve put together a short guide to help ensure you’re prepared for the season ahead.
WHAT'S IN YOUR POCKET
Use your pocket space wisely. A lightweight wind jacket or gilet takes up little space but makes all the difference when the temperature drops, or in a sudden shower.
Protect yourself from biting wind by covering your head and ears with a helmet cap
When it's too warm for tights and too cool for shorts, knee warmers can be a great addition to pack into your back pocket.
A pair of neoprene gloves are a great addition for riding in wet and cold weather – perfect insulation against biting temperatures thanks to a layer of moisture trapped against the skin which is heated by your own body temperature.
EARLY WARNING
Checking the forecast can make the difference between a good or a bad ride and wearing oversocks will keep out a chill or overshoes will stop the worst of the wet weather.
WATERPROOFING
A durable water repellent jacket will protect you from the heaviest downpours. Look for taped seams for extra protection and breathable fabrics that will give maximum waterproofing without compromising on comfort.
